Frommes Alp – Frommeskreuz – Schönjöchl via Frommes
Starting point: Sägegasse
Character: An extensive hike over wide ranging broad ridges from the Frommes with superb views over the Inntal valley and front zone of the Kaunertal valley. This trail is also popular from the cable car on the Fisser
Joch as descent to Fiss (walking time for descent 3 hrs).
Walking time: Frommes-Alp 1 hour, Frommes-Kreuz 2,5 Stunden, Schönjöchl 3,5 Stunden
Description: From the village (F010) take the Fisser Almweg trail no. 4 until it gets much flatter along the side of the young forest and a forest track turns off to the left (F020). Ascent on this through 3 serpentines to a new crossing (F019). Go straight ahead, you reach the Frommes Alp (food and beverage) at Windles (F055) in a few minutes. Continue on the main trail to the big crossing shortly behind the Frommes Alp (F054). Turn sharp left onto the Waldpfad forest path no. 5 and walk up to the Frommeshütte (F066/067). You can also follow the forest trail no. 6, which also leads to the Frommeshütte. The Frommeshütte is an old shepherd’s hut (no food or beverage). From there, a newly laid out trail leads over many serpentines to far reaching alpine pastures up to the summit cross on the Frommes 2,247 m (F071). Halfway up, a shortcut turns off to the left (F070) via the Frommesböden to the Frommes Speichersee reservoir (F072) and to the Schönjöchl (F079). But it is more recommendable to take the short detour via Frommes Kreuz with spectacular views over the Oberinntal valley. Over the wide ridge, the trail now leads again to the Frommes Speichersee reservoir (F072), which invites you to rest on one of the many benches and rest areas. The continuing trail now runs along the vehicle track (F075) to the summit cross at the Schönjöchl 2,493 m (F079) and after another 15 minutes to the cablecar with its restaurant on the Fisser Joch (F087).
