The Stockerhaus
The Stockerhaus is one of the most artistically significant rural architectural monuments in Tyrol. The two-storey bay window with Renaissance ornamentation and figurative depictions is particularly beautiful and rare. There is no other house in the surrounding area with such an original bay window. The date 1684 on the gable rafter indicates that the house was given a new roof truss in that year, as it had also suffered in the great village fire of 1683. The overall theme of the painting shows many juxtapositions such as the Old and New Testaments, man and God, good and evil, death and life, freedom and compulsion. The owners of the Stockerhaus certainly wanted the magnificent paintings to bear witness to their wealth, education and cosmopolitanism.
